Description

Great Minds Lecture Series/Impactful Art - Madama Butterfly: The Suicide that Stays Art
The Great Minds Lecture Series continues with what promises to be a stellar performance of excerpts from Madama Butterfly along with a discussion about the power of art and the ways in which it influences our social and political views. The production will include key arias performed by critically acclaimed artists who have performed in Puccini’s masterpiece - Danielle Pastin, soprano; Monika Krajevska, mezzo; Mark Womach, baritone; and Francesco Pavesi, tenore. Internationally recognized pianist Jenny Rroji will accompany the artists, and a special feature of Jun Kaneko’s brilliant stage and costume design work for Madama Butterfly will be on display during the production. An expert panel discussion will follow, led by Bette Talvacchia, Ph.D., Professor Emerita of Art History at the University of Connecticut.
