Description

Celebrating 16 years of Free Summer Concerts with International Award-winning Artists ONLY USA Performances on Saturday/July 13th! Thorbjørn Risager and The Black Tornado will headline Saturday / July 13 Playing with Fire summer concert. The Denmark-based, multiple award-winning blues, soul and rock band has toured all over Europe and Canada, playing 100 gigs a year in 21 countries. Playing with Fire will be their first and only performance in the United States. The event will also include performances by Gunwood, an international hypnotic folk and blues-rock trio from Paris, and The Grace Giebler Project, a youthful six-piece ensemble led by local Omaha artist Grace Giebler. Giebler was an American Idol Gold Ticket winner and finishing her final year as a member of the Blues education youth program, four other band members are (BluesEd) alums. The BluesEd band, Vertigo, will continue the programs 16-year tradition as the concerts opening band. Gates open at 3:30 p.m. and the music starts at 4:30 p.m. Admission is free with a portion of the freewill donations benefitting the BluesEd Youth Artists Development Program. The event is open to all ages. Midtown Crossing food vendors are on site. Outside food, coolers, and refreshments are permitted. An additional Playing with Fire concert will be held on August 24 with performances from Indigenous, Sebastian Lane Band, Wille, and the Bandits and BluesEd. Playing with Fire began in 2004 as a means for introducing Omaha residents to high-quality musical talent. Playing with Fire has helped Omaha garner the worldwide reputation for being the first to recognize artists like Joe Bonamassa, Vintage Trouble, Bettye LaVette and Trombone Shorty. As the festival moves into its 16th year, its mission of providing that talent, without cost, to the Omaha community remains true. Over the years, Playing with Fire has held 100 free concerts with over 1,000 musicians on stage. PwF is sustained by grants from the Nebraska Arts Council and the Douglas County Visitor Improvement Fund, private sponsorships, in-kind donations, and committed volunteers.
