Jam's

Jam's is a mid-town institution, the perfect spot to see and be seen while eating innovative takes on traditional American grill fare. A giant mural depicting an interesting collection of winers and diners covers the entire east wall of the restaurant. A long bar sits opposite the mural, with tables for diners situated in between. Mural aside, the décor is minimalist, casting a spotlight on the inventive menu.

Taking up the cooking according to the season gauntlet thrown down by such culinary notables as Alice Waters, Jams changes it menu with the seasons to ensure only the freshest ingredients are used. The revolving menu also keeps guests coming back for new experiences in seasonal cooking and eating.

Appetizers range from the innovative, like the agave shrimp tostada, to the more prosaic, like the pizzette. But even the simple pizzette gets a twist; it changes daily. Prices for the starter course start at $8. Those looking for a quick bite over lunch or before an evening show can opt for one of Jams’ sandwiches. Vegetarians will love the skyscraper vegetarian sandwich while carnivores may opt for the steak sandwich. Surf lovers can sample the coffee house tuna melt or the jumbo crab cake burger. Most sandwiches fall in the $9 to $10 range and are served with a side of your choice.

Lightly dressed fresh greens sit on one end of the salad spectrum and hearty Saigon chicken or steak salads feature on the other. Main dishes include Jams’ popular fish tacos and mid-town meatloaf and start at $10. In addition to perennial offerings, the menu features seasonal dishes and nightly specials. Homemade ice cream and crème brulee are just a few ways diners can cap their meal off with something sweet.

Jams is open Monday through Thursday, 11:00 to 10:00; Friday, 11:00 to 11:00; and Saturday 5:00 to 11:00. Reservations are accepted. For information, visit  www.jamseats.com.
