Roja Mexican Grill

“Roja” translates to red in English, and red hot dishes, south of the Border style, is what Roja’s Mexican Grill does best. The food and décor take a cue from the name of this west Omaha hot spot, located in the Shoppes at Legacy on 168th and West Center Road.

Rojas serves up contemporary Mexican fare in an equally contemporary setting. Firepits and waterfalls give the restaurant’s four-season porch a warm, inviting atmosphere, perfect to sit back and relax with a Corona or margarita at the end of a busy week. Red walls sport black and white art while a suspended catwalk provides space for a live mariachi band. The sleek, metallic dining furniture and unfinished ceiling give the space an urban edge.

The Texas co-owners bring fresh South of the Border flavors to the Great Plains. That’s real lime juice in those margaritas. The bar offers 80 different kinds of tequilas. Tortillas, chips and salsa are made fresh daily on site. Want seafood in land-locked Nebraska? No problem; fresh seafood is flown in from California. Appetizers range from $3 to $10. You can create your own layer dip or try the salsa sampler.

Soups and salads start at $4 and top out at $14. The fajita taco salad gives a Mexican dining staple a new twist. The tortilla soup will prime your taste buds for the rest of your meal.

Main course offerings include Roja’s signature enchiladas and tacos, almond crusted Mahi Mahi, Yucatan Pork tacos, and 3 Chile Chicken Mole.  A combination platter helps the undecided diner. Main courses are $10 and up.

Roja’s is open Monday through Thursday, 11:00 to 11:00 and Friday and Saturday, 11:00 to 12:00.
