BRILLIANT.

ACCORDING TO ANCIENT LORE, the sapphire gave the sky its blue color. The sapphire is a symbol of truth, sincerity and consistency, and can protect its wearer from poisons and evil spirits. It is from the corundum family and is a sister gem to ruby. Although it is most commonly thought of as dark blue in color, corundum is available in every hue. All may be considered sapphires except for those that are red, which places those stones in the ruby family.

Color is paramount when selecting this gemstone. Most sapphires are heat treated or irradiated to enhance their color at the time they are mined. Stones with strong saturation, in any color, are considered the most desirable.

This fun sterling silver, multicolor sapphire pendant, displays the colorful spectrum in which the gemstone is available.

Sapphire is the birthstone for September.
