Fall Denim Trends

Ahhh …crisp air, leaves turning and chilly nights, fall is approaching. OK, we haven’t had any of this quite yet, but we are itching for fall! I can’t wait to slide on my skinny jeans, top them with boots and pile on a cozy sweater and scarf. With fall fast approaching, it’s time to evaluate your denim and see what you need new for the season.

Here are a few tips on the big denim trends for this fall. We’re falling in love with these styles, are you?

While colored denim has been big all year, I think fall takes the cake with its rich jewel tones and deep hues. We’re excited to bring in several pairs of colored denim this fall including scarlet, espresso, blackberry, navy and deep green. We love colored denim paired with a neutral top or sweater. Another great look to try with colored denim is the color-blocking trend. Add a complimentary colored top such as a cobalt blue top with red jeans or a mustard top with green denim.

It’s time to  hop on the wide leg bandwagon (yes, the same one you see every few years) and get a great pair of flare or wide leg denim. They were back on the map for Spring 2011, stuck around for fall and are showing again for Spring 2012.  We love these jeans because they flatter several different body types, particularly curvy shapes. Pair with a heel or a wedge and they have a great slimming effect. We love these jeans with a tucked in top and skinny belt. For fall, flare denim is great paired with a crop blazer or jacket. Keep these jeans at home when it’s really snowy and messy outside. Salt can leave stains, and these jeans typically run really long and need a heel when you wear them. Flare jeans + heels + snow = hurt bums & wet/dirty jeans.

For us Nebraska girls, these are the best jeans for us in the fall and winter.  When trudging though snow, boots are the best shoes to wear and if you often wear boots, skinny jeans or leggings are the best denim to pair with them. They tuck easily inside the boot and don’t bunch up at the knee. Skinny jeans and jegging also pair well with several tops, most prefer to wear them with longer tops. Oversized tops, capes and plush sweaters are huge this year and look great with slim fitting denim.

As we mentioned in this previous blog post we love slim boot denim. This is a modern fit and several of the denim brands are showing their take on the style with new fits this fall. These are a versatile jean that can pair with any shoe and any top.  They make a great staple in any wardrobe.

Denim is getting wild this fall. At a recent buying show we saw denim in several different patterns and textures. Velveteen, cord and wax are some unique new textures we are seeing denim in this season. Patterns range from leopard to lace and everything in between.  Do you dare?

Happy news for all! Gone are the days of low-rise denim with a 2 inch zipper (who did those look good on anyway?) Mid-rise and high rise denim are a back. The fits have been modernized so they’re not what many typically refer to as “mom jeans”. We love this wide leg from Henry & Belle and this great mid-rise skinny from Hudson. Say bye-bye to muffin tops! These jeans hold them in! Pair these with any top or for a modern take, tuck in and blouse out your top.
