"Breaking the Silence", featuring Dorothy Hamill

Join Community Alliance and former Olympic figure skater Dorothy Hamill on Thursday, October 14th at 7 p.m. as they raise awareness of mental illness and the impact it can have on families. Hamill will speak about her struggles with depression and share her life’s journey overcoming mental illness.

‘Breaking the Silence’ is one of the region’s largest educational events focused on eliminating the fear and stigma surrounding mental illness. The event will be held at the Joslyn Art Museum- Witherspoon Hall, with hors d’oeuvres and complimentary beverages to be served from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Mental illness transcends both social and economic boundaries, affecting nearly 1 in 5 families in our community. If left untreated, mental illness may result in unemployment, substance abuse, homelessness and even suicide.

Committee members include: Chairman Kathy Gerber, Joannie Bowers, Don Browers, Julie Cobb, Jay Daily, Sally Gass, Bill Gerber, Barry Larson, Deirdre Milobar, Darlene Mueller, Sue Oakes, Robin Putnam, Carol Russell, Stephanie Samson, Denise Stange, Sarah Waldman, Ellen Wright, Carole Boye and Aileen Brady. Honorary chairs are Steve Martin and Amy Haddad.

Ticket prices for the event are $100 per person with $55 a tax deductible contribution. Special considerations will be given to large groups interested in sponsoring the event.

Tickets may be purchased via phone at 402-341-5128, by email at breakingthesilence@commall.org or online at www.community-alliance.org.
