Local Author Empowers Children in Book About Bullying

Melissa Saunders, an Omaha native, hold master's degrees in both education and counseling, and worked as an elementary school teacher and elementary school counselor in the Metro area for 12 years. She is now writing children's therapeutic fiction, which is fiction that assists a child in learning skills and coping strategies they need in order to overcome challenges in life.

Once considered a rite of passage, Melissa Saunders informs people bullying as a very serious issue that can have lifelong consequences for young people. As adults, Melissa Saunders suggests the best thing we can do is listen to young people's concerns about bullying, and offer them effective strategies and support they need to stop being a target or a perpetrator.

At the end of December her book, Lessons from a Rubber Duck, will be released. It is an engaging and educational tale about teasing and bullying. Through clever metaphor and humor, it offers effective strategies to empower children and encourages them to use their sense of humor and imagination to take the sting out of name calling and teasing.

Melissa Saunders has two events planned: an "open house" book signing for kids and families at Cupcake Island on 119th and Pacific on January 15th, and an "open house" book signing for kids and families at eCreamery on 5001 Underwood Ave in Dundee on Sunday, January 30th.

Until her website is launched in mid to late December, you can visit Melissa Saunders page on Facebook for more information.
