Fundraiser for Dillon and Tyler Peters

On February 19th, a fundraiser will be held for Dillon and Tyler Peters. Both boys, ages 7 and 5 suffer from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a crippling, terminal illness that will claim both their lives.

Melissa Peters, the boy’s single mom, faces increasing struggles as the boys grow more and more dependent on her for basic day to day needs. Even now, Dillon is completely wheelchair bound and requires assistance in and out of bed and baths and Tyler will be dependent on a scooter for transportation as his condition worsens.

The Peters are temporarily renting a handicap-accessible home that is conveniently located close to Dillon’s and Tyler’s grade school. Melissa feels blessed that the current owners of the home are allowing the family to lease-to-own the home for one year.

The Peters’ fundraiser is being held to help secure the down payment for the home and, if possible, additional funds to help reduce or eliminate mortgage payments that Melissa faces. If the funds are not raised, Melissa and the boys face an uncertain future and may be forced to relocate yet again.

Highlighting the fundraiser will be the auctioning of two valuable pieces of football memorabilia. Former Husker Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Rodgers donated an "Extreme Legend Limited Edition Football" signed by Nebraska Heisman winners: Johnny Rodgers, Mike Rozier and Eric Crouch and three Heisman winners from Oklahoma, Steve Owens, Billy Sims and Jason White.

A certificate of authenticity is included along with a picture. Even more valuable is a Heisman football signed by 22 winners. The signing players won the award in the following years: '51, '55, '56, '57, '58, '67, '69, '70, '72, '78, '79, '80, '83, '90, '92, '96, '99, '00, '01, '03, '07 and '08. A certificate of authenticity is included. The estimated value of the two footballs is in the thousands of dollars.

The fundraiser will be held at Buffet Middle School – at 14101 Larimore Avenue in Omaha. The event will be catered by Sgt. Peffer’s Italian Café and will run from 4:30 to 8:30 pm on February 19th. Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for children. There will be a silent auction and raffle throughout the evening.

If you are unable to attend the fundraiser or wish to donate, cash donations can be made to the “Dillon and Tyler Peters Fund” at any Wells Fargo Bank in Omaha.
