The Salvation Army KROC Center Launches New Youth Sports Program

On Saturday, January 8, 2011, The Salvation Army Kroc Center celebrated the launch of its new Youth Sports Program with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

The ribbon cutting event was held at 10:00 AM at the Kroc Center and featured several Omaha-area dignitaries, followed by the inaugural basketball league opening games. The ribbon cutting and games were open to the public.

The new Kroc Center Youth Sports Program will offer sports leagues for boys and girls from first through eighth grade. Winter leagues will include basketball and futsal, and spring leagues will include soccer.

The Kroc Center Youth Sports Program will offer more incentives than other leagues including free breakfast for players and coaches, a free T-shirt and water bottle, and free weekly ping pong, foosball and pool tournaments. Mentoring opportunities will also be available. Leagues will be played in the Kroc Center's state-of-the art Gymnasium Complex with three full-sized basketball courts, full locker room facilities and bleacher seating.

Several organizations are supporting the Kroc Center Youth Sports program including Fresh Concepts, ConAgra Foods, HyVee, Playsmart, and Nothing But Net Foundation to help supplement league expenses. In addition, the sponsor support will make it possible for many young people to play where otherwise participation would not be affordable.
