Top 10 List for National Mentoring Month!
January is National Mentoring Month. There are a number of ways you can make a difference this month - and throughout the year - and get involved as an individual or through your employer!
1. Mentor a child
Make a difference in a child's life, as well as your own. Mentoring offers benefits like improving self-esteem, keeping kids in school, and preventing risky behaviors.
2. Sponsor programs
Whether you donate as an individual or your company supports mentoring, your involvement goes a long way to support our work to expand quality mentoring in Douglas & Sarpy Counties.
3. Share your skills
From help with marketing or technology to assisting with legal and accounting services, we can help you find a program that could benefit from your talents.
4. Donate space
Your company's space could host a fundraiser, friendraiser or board meeting for a mentoring program, or even (if you have unused space) house a mentoring organization's staff.
5. Raise awareness
Just spreading the word about the power of mentoring and need for mentors is helpful.
Businesses can also donate advertising space, promote mentoring to your employees or customers, offer marketing and PR services, or use your communication tools to promote mentoring.
6. Attend the Mentor Summit
On Friday, January 27th at DoubleTree Hotel—or just attend the awards luncheon that day!
7. Send A Thank You Note
On Thursday, January 26th, send a thank you note to someone that has served as a Mentor in your own life.
8. “Like” us on Facebook
Help promote our activities with your friends. Or, follow “Mentor Omaha” on Twitter.
9. Attend a Mentor Orientation
Events held on Thursday, March 22 at 5:15 pm, or March 29th at Noon.
10. Bring your Mentee
Mentors and Mentees are invited to our special workshops on Saturday, January 28th. All activities are free of charge, and anyone that signs up will receive two free tickets to the movie premier of “Big Miracle”–an inspiring true story of the heroic rescue of three California gray whales found trapped in the ice in the Arctic Circle. A great mentor/mentee activity! The screening of “Big Miracle” will be held on Friday, February 3rd at RAVE Motion Pictures in the Westroads Mall.
