The League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan political organization, encourages women’s informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.

Involvement could include:

  • Helping to write questions for the Douglas County Voters Guide
  • Participating in a study on Pay Day Lending
  • Joining the small group: “Dine and Discuss,” for casual discussion of issues
  • Serving as a facilitator for Running and Winning, a spectacular program for high school girls
  • Keeping abreast of issues and contacting elected representatives about them

Besides the usual executive positions, board opportunities include directorships:

  • Voter Service
  • Natural Resources
  • Social Policy
  • Speakers Bureau
  • Membership

There are two leagues in the area. For more information on the League of Women Voters of Greater Omaha, visit www.omahalwv.org or find us on Facebook (search "Omaha League of Women Voters.").

Members don’t all agree with League positions on all issues, and we sometimes enjoy spirited, intelligent discussions that shed light, and occasionally a little heat.
